About Us

Salzburg Therapeutics is developing unique products to selectively eradicate malignant cells.  Cytotoxamer technology differs from alternative targeted therapeutic approaches that utilize monoclonal antibodies or conventional aptamers.  Relative to conventional aptamers, Cytotoxamers incorporate cytotoxic nucleotide analogs directly into the targeting structure.  Whereas with conventional aptamers, the aptamer is merely an expensive tumor targeting vehicle, in Cytotoxamers, the tumor targeting vehicle is built directly from anticancer drugs - delivering greater potency at lower cost.  Cytotoxamers are also more cost-effective than monoclonal antibodies and the smaller size of Cytotoxamers may result in greater tumor penetration and a higher cure rate.

Our Business

Salzburg Therapeutics is committed to developing Cytotoxamer and Genotoxamer technologies and to obtaining FDA approval to initiate human clinical trials with our lead compound.  We seek funding for our drug development efforts through a combination of government grants and private equity.  Salzburg Therapeutics welcomes inquiries from larger pharmaceutical companies seeking to expand their pipeline for developing new oncology products.

Who We Are

Salzburg Therapeutics was founded by Dr. William H. Gmeiner to develop technologies for treating cancer developed in his laboratory at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.  The intellectual property that provides the foundation for the development of proprietary products by Salzburg Therapeutics has been disclosed to the office of technology asset management (OTAM) at Wake Forest University.  Patents on these technologies are currently pending.  Dr. Stan Mandel, the director of the Angell Center for Entrepreneurship at WFU has served as CEO for the company during the early stages of spinning out from WFU.  Dr. Gary Hellmann, an experienced scientist with 15+ years of industrial experience in addition to experience with start-up companies and an adjunct appointment at WFUSM will serve as CEO for Salzburg Therapeutics during the next phase of business development.  Salzburg Therapeutics is currently a client of the Babcock Demon incubator at WFU by Tom Clarkson.
